Manning and Mania

I awoke this morning in a good mood.  My husband and I had shared our Friday night with good friends, a great dinner and an evening of bridge.  I slept late, got my coffee and turned on the computer.  The first few news items just made me laugh, though ruefully.

It seems that now that he has been convicted of being a pusillanimous little weasel, Bradley Manning wants to be a woman.  Now that is both sexist and funny—women are made of sterner stuff.  Corporal Klinger has decided he would be safer in a woman’s prison than general population so he is playing the disability card.  He actually wants the country he despises to pay for his rehabilitation.  This is more self-serving, manipulative, whinny clap trap from a rat caught in a trap.  Thankfully, the Army has said, “no.”  The Army will undoubtedly face a fight on this one, but Manning is not a sympathetic character.  He took money to betray his country and is now trying to hide behind indulgent psychology.

Transgender people make up only 0.3% in the United States—about 700,000 people.  Statistically that means you would need a gym full of 300 people to have even one transgender person (for all of you Californians out there, that means your schools will be building a separate bathroom to accommodate one or two lucky people—make it a nice one!)   Contrary to what you might surmise from television (where you can’t write a sit com or series without a homosexual in a recurring role) the entire LGBT population makes up only 3.2% of the population.   I have more than one LGBT person in my circle of friends and family and I believe they are citizens, pure and simple.  They inherently have every right I have, including the right to marry, create a family and live unmolested.  I have known only one transgender person.   She was a brave woman who traveled a tortured road to her present personae and I admire her for it.  I am just glad that, unlike the rat Bradley Manning, she didn’t ask me, as a tax payer, to pay for her conversion.

So far, my road to a wakeful and relaxed Saturday was only mildly amusing.  Then I got to the meat of the news items and my day was ruined.  It seems that there were a series of news items that started my teeth itching.

1.       California wants non-citizens to serve on juries and follow people into the voting booth to act as translators (i.e. defacto citizenship).

2.      A librarian changed the rules of winning her, “most books read” contest when the same student won it 5 years in a row.  Evidently he is, “winning too much.”  To a capitalist that makes him an asset.  To a socialist that makes him a threat.

3.      The usual suspects at MSNBC are trying to deflect any questions about crimes committed by blacks against whites as, “…foolish rampages” while white on black crime is always racism.  I say they are both examples of bad parenting, indulgent societies and an impotent judicial system.

There is no sanity remaining at the extreme left.  I know why.  They thought President Obama was their ticket to ascendency.  Instead, he has been a weak, disinterested and ineffectual leader and his term is ending with the predicable whimper.  It is making them rabid.  All they can do at this point is froth at the mouth, angrier and more spiteful all the time, in their manic dash to remake the world in their pathetic socialist mode.

Pour some coffee and keep the faith.
