Brave New World and Elysium Flops

Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, has been ranked among the top 100 novels ever written by a good handful of surveys.  I have read it and thought it was a rather pedestrian futuristic novel, but I have been wrong before.  What has my teeth itching is the eerie way that the current cabal of left-leaning extremists seems to be using Brave New World as their master plan for taking over the minds of the blunt skulls of this planet.  […maniacal laughter off stage.]

Try these comparisons.  Reproduction is turned into loveless technology with humans decanted as needed and only meeting the needs of the central authority.  The people are controlled and manipulated through ritualized sexual experimentation (even among children) and with legalized drugs.  There is a general, “give them what they want for immediate gratification and they won't notice what we are doing” attitude by the governmental powers. Consumption is encouraged; dissent is punished.  We even have the fearless leader, Mustapha Mond, who thinks that all sacrifices of personal liberty are acceptable to achieve social stability.  Even the ultimate, “bad guy” of Huxley’s book, the capitalist economy, is the one villain that the modern left feels able to attack at will.

This thought occurred to me while I was reading an article about the continual failure of preachy, socially relevant, “message” movies.  Curiously, all of these movies seem to star Matt Damon who, like David Letterman, has grown a conscience now that he has children of his own to worry about.  [At this point, I need to say to both of them, "You’re a little late to this parade, gentlemen.   Some of us have been worried about the environment, the social fabric of this nation and the legacy we will leave our children decades before you two decided to quit the high life and join us."   Of course we weren’t rich, good looking or well connected so I guess we didn’t count.]

Yes, that was an acidic comment aimed at the, "stars" who suddenly find it amusing to talk, “civics.”  But, I digress.

What put me in mind of Huxley’s, Brave New World, was the concern among Hollywood investors apropos to their latest big money flop, Elysium.  The simple fact is that intelligent people know when they are being manipulated.   While we don’t mind the attempt, we do resent the assumption that we are too stupid to know when it is happening, and will happily pay for the privilege of same.   Let me simplify things for the glitterati.  Intelligent people don’t form their opinions from movies.  We read books, magazines with more words than pictures, and “think pieces” in newspapers.  We listen, we talk, we think, and we make up our own minds.  When we go to the, “flicker show” we want to relax and be entertained.  If there is a good message, that simply becomes frosting on the cake.

The people who count on Matt Damon to form their next cogent thought are the same people who want to see robots turn into flying cars.  They are the same people who think zombies might be real (…cause…cause…well, man, they look so real…especially after burning down my currently legal pot…dude).

Sorry, I’m digressing again.

So, here we are, with the mental midgets of the far left, certain they can change the world if they just follow the Brave New World mode.

Resist the manipulation and keep the faith.
